Here's another touching letter from the “Polish Express” reader. Read these beautiful words of encouragement and solidarity
I was horrified by the Brexit referendum result, and have been even more horrified and ashamed of my country at the outpouring of xenophobic hatred since, particularly after the indefensible murder of a Polish citizen in Harlow.
It was Hitler's invasion of your country that prompted the UK to fight against Adolf Hitler in WW2. You endured massive suffering during that period, and many of your countrymen who managed to escape that regime of terror served valiantly in the Forces against Nazism.
I just do not understand this hatred in my country towards your people. You come here, you work hard, you pay your taxes…where is the problem? You benefit our nation.
I am ashamed of the way the referendum was conducted. I am ashamed of the way politics and society has turned out since 23/6/16. As part of the 48% I would just like to offer my humble apologies to the citizens of your (and other) nation. We will pay for this, I know we will.
Kind Regards, and wishing the best for the Polish population across the UK,
Hamish Hamilton
